We took the overnight train from Krivoy Rig to Kiev and actually slept on the train. It made all the difference in the world to get up in Kiev at 5:45 am and feel rested. We got into a pretty crumby apartment and took showers. (We are actually about to move our stuff to another apartment. I'm pretty flexible, but the first apartment was not cheap, not clean, smells bad with a hole that we might just fall through... not a great way to meet neighbors! So, we will move.)
We made our way to the US Embassy to apply for Nina's passport. When we arrived at the embassy, and couple walked past and asked if we were here for adoption. They live on Long Island--Huntington to be exact. They first gave us directions into the building and guided us through the unknowns of navigating the building and unmarked pathway to the passport office. Afterward, we met up with them again... in our driver's car. They, too, have used Natalia as their local attorney. They are staying at a place owned by YWAM, which is very cool. They suggested we contact them for the next leg of the trip, when I will have Nina. The place is very clean and supports a great ministry. More to come...
